The Southwest High School Raider JROTC VEX Robotics Team is the winner of the National Skills Match Championship - the largest robotics competition involving over 40 countries worldwide. To recognize the team's achievement, the Fort Worth ISD Board of Education is honoring them at the May 17 Special Board Meeting.

VEX Robotics is an important STEM program that offers students the opportunity to participate in engineering, programming, and team-building activities. It is an essential element of JROTC.

Last year, the team finished the competition season ranked first in Texas and seventh in the Nation. On May 5 of this year, they returned to the VEX Robotics World competition knocking off the former #1 team from Hawaii on their final Skills Match to bring home the National Championship.

The Fort Worth ISD is proud of this team and recognizes the long hours of work and preparation and the outstanding individual and collective efforts that resulted in the win:

"When students are provided with the tools and these types of STEM activities, the outcomes are almost always amazing. There's nothing more enjoyable than seeing a group of students like our Raiders work hard and achieve great things," said Lieutenant Colonel (LTC) George W. Vinzant, Senior Army Instructor for South High School JROTC. "We greatly appreciate the support from all involved in providing STEM Robotics programs like these, which provide the path and mechanism that enable our students to dream big and achieve those dreams."
